Pilates is a workout that is a mix of callanetics, ballet and yoga exercises performed against a background of relaxing music. Pilates is a refreshing workout for the mind and body. During it, the focus is on proper breathing and proper positioning of the spine and pelvis. All movements during Pilates are performed smoothly in order to achieve a balance between mind and body. In Pilates, the quality of movement is assessed by the number of repetitions, and proper breathing reduces daily stress. The exercises are performed slowly and with special attention to breathing and concentration of the thought, only once, in a certain number of repetitions, and not in series, as in other types of exercises. The movements seem simple, but to perform them “cleanly” requires maximum muscle strength and iron concentration of the mind. Practicing Pilates regularly will develop a strong core – flat abdominal muscles and a strong back.
